My artwork for the past two years takes a critical view of social, cultural and identity issues. Often referencing revealing aspects of biology, I aimed to challenge the notion of boundaries. I find myself continually returning to those aspects that are the limit of myself, as an individual, but also the intertwined connection to a system made out of me. Layering and continuum seem to be keys to comprehend who we truly are and what we feel ourselves to be in an interconnected world.

My work explores the varying relationship between factual artifacts and personal feelings. Having engaged subjects as diverse as anthropology, gender studies, and environmental studies, my work reproduces the complexity of the notion of identity. Although culture is a mental construct with no scientific basis, science has become the opium of the 21st century. Science is now political, operating leverage in manipulating people. Science and culture have to be deconstructed.

I believe the engagement of the deconstructionist artists from the 60s is more than ever reinvented. The world may not be changed in an instant by art, yet artists can shed light on the science supremacy and the arbitrary social beliefs that shape our civilization, revealing the most honest picture of ourselves. Do not become hypnotized by the medical snake; his venom paralyzes us and disconnects us from the system.

Plural Identity is a multi-layered story about authenticity, and ranges from the context of biology and art practice. Bio art, in order to make the weapons of the oppressors our own. Menstrual blood is a sign of who I truly am, while soil embraces all notions of belonging. Micro-imagery opens our eyes to the genuine world.

I think of my work as extensible inventories of what constitutes our identity. My arrangements are thematic, inviting the viewer to move into a space of layering speculations. An ecosystemic identity. My installation takes in various forms, intended to draw in the audience new circles of reflections, providing an experimental challenge of one’s perceptions and assumptions. I rely on our desires for poetics and humanity.
